Purpose
To get updated information on time use by women and men in Portugal in particular with regard to paid work and unpaid care work, to support the promotion of the articulation of work, personal and family life.
Objectives
To update the diagnosis, and characterization of time use by men and women in Portugal, regarding paid work and unpaid care work in particular;
To raise awareness on the need for a balanced distribution of unpaid care work between women and men as a tool for gender equality;
To make a comparative analysis between the outcomes of the updated time use survey and the most relevant results of the 1999 time use survey;
To complement the quantitative approach, based on the survey, with a qualitative approach, based on in-depth interviews;
To produce and disseminate materials, addressed to the general population, focusing on the main results of the study;
To formulate recommendations for public policies on the articulation of work, personal and family life as a tool for gender equality.
Activities
Research and study
Conduction of a large scale, nationwide, time use survey addressed to a representative sample of the population living in Portugal, aged 15 years or over in a total of 10,000 questionnaires;
Conduction of 30 qualitative interviews among women and men in different areas of the national territory.
Dissemination
Dissemination of the project, its activities and results on the partner organisations´ web pages;
Publication of the report on the Portuguese situation concerning the gendered use of time;
Edition and dissemination of policy brief/fact sheet on main indicators regarding time use by men and women and the articulation of work, personal and family life;
Participation in meetings, workshops and other public events on the national and international level;
Project’s final conference.
